Lets face it. 2020 was so far out of left field that even Nostradamus himself wouldn’t have seen that coming. I remember all the talk about a potential lock down in March across the internet and I chalked it up to another one of the many conspiracy theories that graces our screens. However March rolled on and working for a DHB we were given a heads up that there was a high chance a lock down was happening. 3 days warning, and then home for 4 weeks…..with 4 kids…..
Here we are, in 2021 and I am currently contracting full time to Whanganui District Health Board. I have been here for the past 16 months and when I look back at that time I just remember how the the demands of the job ramped up significantly. As the lead engineer for the WDHB I was tasked with ensuring our hospital could handle up to 1000 remote users….and I had 3 days to achieve this.
In came O365 to rescue us. Email and communications were highlighted as our most critical services, so a shift of 1400+ mailboxes into the cloud. A PABX to Teams migration for our phone system and lastly a virtual desktop platform that could scale at will was stood up in Azure using Windows Virtual Desktop (aka WVD).
Adversity and rising to the challenge…….I did this all during lockdown whilst also organising a tangi….for my father…..Wiremu Hori (08/11/2021 – 24/04/2020)
